I see I reached

7500 hits this morning. (7311 of them probably were mine.) That's a good morning's work, I expect, for some of the Big & Rich Blogs, so thanks to those of you who read here, regularly or once in a while: your hearts must be as pure as Galahad's, for, Lord knows, there's no fringe benefits here, nothing to tempt you but the poetry itself.

get off your high chair.

I don't know about pure hearts, but a morning without Richard is unthinkable. Even if some (okay, a lot) of your poetry leaves me with a wrinkled brow.

who loves ya, babe

Well, you spelled "your" correctly. Twice. Now if you only could master the shift key.

A wrinkled brow is what you get, Agnes, for describing me as a bear, even if you didn't think I was listening.

::smooch:: Ain't nothin' wrong with bears, snookums.

"Snookums"? Snookums??? Well, I...[bluster] [bluster] [derisive snort]....

now that you know who you audience is, perhaps you can cater to them by writing about cooking and other unthinkables.

Richard Epstein said...

Dear anonymous,

I take it simple English presents some major difficulties for you. Without trying too hard to determine why you find cooking an "unthinkable" (too many trips to Sonic lately?), I think I can recommend some remedial websites for you. It's never too late to start learning to write.

i suppose that i find the interest(s)? of your fan list amusing. what is "sonic"? is that "sonic youth"? would you know them? do you write about them? what do you know outside your middle class, "high brow" cynicism?

i don't come here often, i just pop in to see how much more arrogant you've gotten (for reasons that continue to stun and baffle me).

dear snookum,

i am sorry to have put into question the statistics which you declared rather loudly. i only come here to read your poems. i like what you do with the line at times, but would never seek to emulate your often stilted efforts. this is coming from someone who sees the potential, but not the "product" quite yet.

ps. you could always take the anon. option off?

Richard Epstein said...

Anonymous,

You want me to remove the anonymous option to save you from your own lack of guts? I rather think that's your problem, not mine.

"Sonic," as you infer, is a very high-class, high-brow, Oxbridgian, Hellenic reference which only those well schooled in Aristotelian dialectics could understand. But I'll give you a hint:

The extra-long cheese coneys are particularly erudite.

glad to learn that you're familiar with stuff that goes on outside your drawing room (or ostentatious pulpit-head?)...now let us see if you can actually write about it.

Anonymous said...

ps. as you can tell from the enthused response of all your Imaginary Flatterers (perhaps they're aliens? or teenage mutant ninja turtles or teenage mutant ninja mothers), the counter must be slightly off...There could also be hundreds of folks - nay, thousands of folks - who are interested in modernism. I'll stick to Pound, merci beaucoup.
Thanks for convincing me that you're a complete idiot.

Anonymous said...

response(s). You will no doubt try to preach to me about the plural. None of it convinces that you're living in this century. You gotta work much harder, mon ami.

Anonymous said...

tsk. a surfeit of anonymice.

fdughkn! (my verification word)

mouse,

In retrospect it appears clear that you didn't understand the title or the message which began this thread, and as a consequence you've been hallooing after a red herring ever since. Figures.

the message says:

"7500 hits this morning. (7311 of them probably were mine.) And made me grin because I saw how a poet chasing after numerological shadows. Equating writing poems to numbers. Equating reading hearts to Gallahad.

Rock on, RHE and Nevid. Assonance can make asses out of a pair.

Really? How about a pear?

All this will teach me to write more clearly, I hope. As the marginally literate will have noted, I was pointing out that, after 9 or 10 months, my hit count had finally reached 7500--a number which many blogs manage every week--every day, for all I know. I was attempting False Modesty, adopting a properly demure manner in thanking those few who do bother to read here.

One wonder what drew Mr mouse and Mr khan here in the first place. Odd place to visit when you're still trying to get the hang of English, and odder still if you find my style uncongenial, since the site has nothing else to offer. (Oh, and by the way, that was "Galahad.")

Jim said...

well, the false modesty wasn't working.
